When you’re in the season of “Newlyweds” there is so much you learn so quickly. Being just a little over a year in, we have learned so much about each other but also about what a committed healthy relationship looks like day to day. It is a daily task to choose love, joy, peace, patience.. etc. and in order to love others properly you must love yourself! This is a step you should have already accomplished prior to marriage! It makes it so much easier, in our experience.

Once you properly love yourself and know what it takes to fill up your cup, then it’s easier to give. This is also helpful just with any relationship, really. As far as marriage though, you aren’t always going to be at 100%. So it’s good to communicate with your spouse when you’re not at that point.

There have been times where we both have long days at work and in different scenarios prior to coming home and when we are at dinner we can talk about it. Communication is one of the most important parts of success in a relationship! One thing we have found that works really well for us, and how we feel most loved and connected individually and together, is setting aside a date night every week! Typically we do Friday nights. We both know that we have this night to be intentional with each other, as that is key to feeling loved and connected to your spouse. You can find what works for you!

Lastly, consistently making sure Jesus is at the center of your relationship. Spirituality is also very important to continue to grow in together as well as individually! Overall things do change and life happens but we always choose each other.
